Clunk or thump while accellerating

I get a clunk or thump sound and feeling when I need to accellerate while driving or sometimes from a dead stop.
The dealer has said this normal.
Anyone experience this oddity and any fix?
I drive a 2006 F150 SCAB FX4.
Thanks!!

Clunking

My brother and I have had the same problem on an 04 & 05 F150. The last time I brought mine in, the dealer lubed the slip yoke. Sounds like BS to me but it went away for a while. I'd like to know a good fix too. The sound makes me feel like something is loose.

This is a common problem from the Rangers to the F150's, not sure about the F250 and up. The problem is in the slip yoke on the driveshaft. The supposed fix has been everything from grease, to a loctite. Ford has redesigned the driveshafts and slip yokes almost every year with the same problem "popping" back up. The grease does help for a while but it comes back as the grease moves on. I really don't know if there is a fix, but we almost completely filled the rubber boot on a ranger with grease and the customer never came back.

Hmm you would think they would come up with a fix for this. I wonder if there are any aftermarket slip yokes out there that would resolve it. Far try I know but any other suggestions????

Unhappy Same thing on a 2007 Screw

I just posted on another thread that seemed to be similar. I have a 2007 Screw with 5000 km with the same problem. I was going to take mine in for warranty work because the sound is driving me crazy. A 4 month old truck should be making that noise!!

Anyone know if this is a common issue? I haven't seen this on the board much and I was wondering if only a select few of us gets the privilege of having this problem?!

Count me in (05' F-150)

I posted it in another thread wondering what it was. I don't really get the noise going from a dead stop and then accelerating... happens mostly to me when I'm in traffic and I go from a slow roll then accelerate.

Problem fixed... for now

I called the dealership yesterday and they booked me in for 1:00 today. They told me there a TPC issued through Ford for this (SSM19898) and it called for them to “lube the slip yoke of the rear driveshaft”.

They basically unbolted the drive shaft filled the slip yoke with grease and re-bolted; exactly what mazdaparts said above. They couldn’t tell me if this would fix the problem permanently.

Does the F150 have Zerk fittings on the Cardon joints?

I just put a set of Heavy Duty Zerked Cardon joints on my Dakota, and boy, it sure made a difference.

add me to the list of clunkers. just got my 05 lariat scab back from the dealer. said the same thing that mazdaparts said. lubed the yoke. popped my head under the truck to see what kinda job they did and they didn't even wipe up all the tranny fluid that leaked out after they pulled the slip yoke

with the sound and worst of all, the feel of the clunk I had I'm confident that I will be going back to the dealer again once the "lube" works it's way out.

Clunk and Thump

Add me to the list of clunk and thump. Brand new 07 with only 1200 miles. I had a 96 full size Bronco with the same issue and the dealer could never fix the problem. Grease doesn't seem to be a long term solution any other fixes? Also can I take the truck back to the dealer under the lemon law?

mine did this yesterday, it got consistant where everytime I start from a stop it would slip then grab. I thought my transmission was fixing to take a dump.. still am not convinced.. But I put it in reverse at the same episode before I parked it, and it would not do it again.. I drove home that afternoon, no problems.
I was thinking about it and maybe I accidently pushed in the OD off button, there seems to be no indicator light for it anywhere. Then again I also can see how the slip yoke can cause this too.

I got rid of a chevy silverado for this same kind of crap, so yep I am not too happy. I don't trust any truck now.. maybe I will go by a car and just find an old ford from the good ole days for hauling.

I'm actually releived to find that it isn't my tranny failing. All this time I thought I was heading for transmission problems. I have an F150 SCREW 5.4L, 3.55 dif-slip. I had put on a Volant air intake system and the Magna Flow stainless steel cat back dual exhaust system. Sounds good by the way. I was thinking of taking it to the dealership to have the tranny looked at but had heard of dealerships stating that the add-on air intake system voided any warranty work because the change of air flow presure even though the system uses the factory installed sensor. If anyone hears of a fix that wouldn't void any warranty that would be great.

I have the same problem on my old 1999 F150. I've had the slip yoke lubbed twice since the truck was new... Clunking goes away for a while and then comes back. Lube her up and keep on truckin'.

Set The Dealers Straight!!!

Hey guys, my '05 f-150 4x4 scab did the same thing during the summer in '06(clunk in the rear end). so I took to the dealer and they told me the TSB called for newer, thicker, better, whatever grease. 3 weeks later I was back in the shop for the same problem. they then replaced the drive shaft. NEVER HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM with that truck( Ihave an '08 Screw now). Heres the Kicker and BYRNESSM you might want like this part. That truck had a Airaid intake, BBK 80mm TB, superchips tune(I did untune it before I took it in) and Flowmaster duel cat-back. Aftermarket parts do NOT void the waranty. If an aftermarket part IS a direct cause of a failure then they dont have to honor your claim. My service manager tried that crap on me too. A Cold-air and a cat-back has nothing to do with a rear end "clunk", and since there is and existing TSB on these vehicles anyway they cant prove it wasn't a defect to begin with. I didn't pay a dime to get that "clunk" fixed and neither should any of you .

Thanks. That is good news. I'll have to un-Super Chip tune it before I take it in. A little research thru Google for the TSB has turned up the following:
TSB = 06-19-16
SHUDDER/VIBRATION ON MODERATE TO HARD ACCELERATION
FORD: 2004-2007 F-150
LINCOLN: 2006-2007 Mark LT
