Hello everyone, just joined and already found a thread that may help me! I just bought an 04' F150 s-cab 4X4 and while driving and when I get into the gas and about the time the tranny kicks down a gear (passing gear) it will get this cluck you all are talking about and it doesn't matter how fast I am going. When I have the overdrive turned off, it doesn't do it. Does this sound like the same problems you all are having? Thanks in advance guys/gals.

Brandon

BTW, if this is the same problem, anyone have complete instructions on how to do the fix, what grease to use and all? Thanks again.

Yep. 05 SCrew and I have the same problem. I also thought the trans was going south on me. I took mine to the dealer and they flushed my trans. Still had the problem. Thanks for the heads up.

I only notice it situations where I have let off the gas, slowwing down and then I get back on the gas. Thats when I feel/hear a clunk.

Hey All. Just joined this morning. I have the same problem on my '04. Good to hear it is not the tranny going. Doesn't do it often but I will NOT be taking it back to the dealer as I just don't trust them.

Is this something a guy can fix himself? What type of grease should I use?

What he said. Not a rush for me but I would like to get to this once our 80+ inches of snow melts.

I went through the exact same thing the rest of you have gone through. Mine clunked the 1st day out of the dealership. 2003 XL 4x4 4.2L. After taking it to the dealer 2 times and then researching this website, the only solution is lubeing the slip yoke. Just mark the driveshaft at the bolts, remove bolts and drop the driveshaft. Pack in the Teflon Grease ( Part # D2A2-19590-A) in the splines and replace. Only takes me about 15 minutes. I do it every 20K or when it starts to clunk. ( STILL A PAIN )

I am also a thump and clunker in my '04 Scab 4x4. The worst thing about it is the jerking motion i feel while driving. It makes me feel like finger nails on a chalk board to feel my truck jerk like that.

Guys, this issue IS related to the output splines binding to the yoke shaft. If you research it you will find that ALL manufacturers of rear wheel drive vehicles have this as a complaint in some form or fashion(foreigns as well). I've owned GM and Dodge trucks with this happening. Grease is the only cure that many/most dealerships and shops will offer. It's not a fix and will more than likely happen again down the road(sooner rather than later). If you are in the warranty period, take it to the dealer and have them "Play" with your 30k dollar truck. If out of warranty, grease it and live with it. If it's not tolerable to feel or hear this clunk maybe on a frequent basis, you'll probably have to get a front wheel drive car b/c all trucks can and probably will have some clunking as part of it's ride quality sometime during it's life(esp. if you're like me and drive it like it's stolen )

I posted this in a different area. I have the same problem with an '04 Heritage w/ 70,000 miles on it. Had the problem since the truck was new. Only difference is I feel the clunk as I come to a stop. What does Ford charge to grease the slip yoke? I know it's not serious, just annoying! Thanks...

Count me in

I have an '04 that does the same thing. I didn't notice this when it was new but start noticing it about 30K miles. I now have 78K on it. The funny thing is that I took it to the dealership and they acted like they had no clue what I was talking about. It sounds like this is pretty common and they were just shooting BS at me.

I bought an extended service plan good to 100K. I'm going back and trying to get them to lube this.
