Angry Please help new clutch and SC wont go into gear when started

Please help our ford explorer has just had the clutch and the slave cylinder replaced - now the clutch pedal takes very low and worst of all when cold you cant get the gear stick into gear - (you have to put it in gear with the engine off) when you turn the engine off and put it in gear its very clunky until warm It cost us alot to get this far and we are at the mercy of the mechanic and the car is almost undriveable, the weird thing is once you drive around for 20 minutes or so things seem to be ok, it changes gear ok and can even be started and driven normally - until we stop and the car cools down!
The mechanic thinks the gear box may be damaged and need a rebuild but we are unsure - what do you think? Please help - we cant afford to spend even more money and not get this resolved!

Have you check the fluid to the clutch? Just asking the stupid question but maybe its low. Also check the fluid in the transmission. There might not be enough in ther eand it could be making it hard to put in gear.

You paid someone to put the clutch in & he's not fixing it?

It's difficult to bleed that slave cylinder if you don't follow the procedure precisely.

Yup, i'd say either a bad slave (did he actually replace it) or still air in the system.
