Question Draining C6 Torque Converter

My 1979 F-150 with a C6 automatic transmission has been having problems going into drive when it is cold in the mornings. Once it warms up for a few minutes, it is find. I am hoping to avoid a rebuild in the short-term by changing the fluid and filter with a fluid that contains a seal conditioner, probably Pyroil. So, I am getting ready to drop the pan and filter. However, I can't find any instructions (Chiltons, WWW, f150online, etc.) on how to drain the torque converter, except as preparation for removing the transmission. Can anyone help me out with instructions on the best way to drain the torque converter?

Thanks in advance,

rhammer

Drop the pan, change the filter, top off the fluid, then go to a shop that has a machine that will do a complete fluid replacement. Throw some Lucas additive into it. My stepdaughter has been keeping a bum tranny in her Chrysler minivan (SAME symptoms) going with that stuff for almost 2 years now. The only other way to drain the converter is if it has a plug.

Remove the front inspection cover and turn the engine around until you see the drain plug. You can drain that converter.

If it does have a plug, that's going to be easy and relatively cheap. You won't need to use a machine for a total replacement. Do replace the filter.
