HELP! need quick anwers...

ok so my dad just called me, he took my truck to the ranch and got halfway there when he started experiencing transmission problems. he said it accelerates up to about 40 and then pops into neutral. he also said the overdrive keeps coming off without him pushing the button. he also said a message came up that said "transmission malfunction." anyone know what this could be??

It could be a lot of things. The OD coming off is really the OD light flashing. It does that when a code is stored in the PCM. Have the code read and then we can start the diagnosis. Without the code it's just a bunch of guesses.

is this a replaceable part or does it mean an entire new transmission?

this sucks. i never even drive the truck hard, and it has all highway miles with almost no towing. only 72k.

Disaster

dad made it to the dealership, they havent looked at it yet, but the fluid was at an appropriate level, the guy said its most likely a fried cluth...
now just waiting on the call with the diagnosis...

my dad had to go t0 a rental lot to rent a truck to get him up to the ranch...of course, a silverado.....

and now my truck is at a dealership 200 miles away from me with a possible fried transmission....this, ontop of the edge refusing to work, my frustration levels are just huge right now....
