clutch freeplay?

hello there

i have had my 99 4x4 f150 5 speed manual for a week. it has 144000 miles.

today after doing city driving all day the clutch was fine. but on way home...less than ten miles, the clutch all of a sudden had an inch or so play as you start pushing it in. i tried pumping but it didnt help. i started thinking it was always like it and just didnt notice. i had truck off for half hour and the clutch was right there with no play again.

any suggestions?

I know if you take it in they have a way to do it. I'm not sure. I would look at the lines make sure there is no leaks or holes. I know I had a truck that sat for awhile and some mice crawled up into the bell housing and got stuff in the clutch and that had play in it also. I found that out by taking off the bell housing inspection cover and looked in there.

If you look under your truck the bell housing is where your tranmission connects to the engine and it looks like a well, bell housing. There is a inspection cover on there you can take off with a few bolts but, I'm not sure if that would be your problem I just know that happened to me.
