Transmission Slip on Start Up

Hey Guys, My truck's had this issue since I got it in 2004. When you accelerate from a stop and put your foot in it more than just a touch it makes a squeak noise and slips a little bit before it grabs and takes off. It's not extremely dramatic, but it obviously shouldn't be there because I've driven my friends' 1998 and it doesn't do this. Anyone have a similar problem or have any suggestions as to what it may be? One of my friends drove it and said it felt like the differential was slipping. But I don't know how that would work if it only does it at start up and never slips otherwise. Please advise!

i had that type problem on my old 94 dakota. it only did it when i was parked on a hill. it would slip and then it would be fine the rest of the trip. a suspected the torque converter was draining down or something was wrong with the pump. i just lived with it.

It seems like I have the same problem with my 05 F-150 FX4 series. When I make a total stop at a hill and let go off the brake, the truck slips back like if its in neutral before I accelerate again. Is this normal for F-150's.? My dad's diesel silverado doesn't have this problem.

I'm pretty sure it's not normal. I drove my friend's 1998 5.4 and while it rattled and his brakes felt like nothing I've ever heard, there was no tranny slip. (He's not as **** as I am about the smoothness of the drivetrain)

I think i'll take it to dealer and deliberate with them on what it can be, because I don't think it's normal either. I'll get back to you on any improvements though.
