Low Range Not working properly

my 4WD low will not engage 100 % of the time, or really even 5% of the time, almost got stuck tonite and i really needed it to avoid tearing up my driveway, so i had to tear it up because it would not engage so i could climb out of the 15" Ruts, i had a new auto put in 10K ago with a hi-perf torque converter, it shudders from take off but goes away pretty quick under accelleration. Is it because of the chip and the tires? Btw i love it when the converter locks sometimes around 2k and it will pull it all the way through the powerband with full throttle . most of all, whats up with the 4wdLOW range not working?

Are you stopped, in neutral, and foot on break with working break lights?

Brake lights work 100% of the time? If the brake pedal switch is intermittent, 4L will be intermittent.
You also didn't state whether you had MSOF or ESOF.

MSOF = Manual Shift On the Fly - You have a shift lever for 4wd
ESOF = Electronic Shift On the Fly - You have a rotary dial for 4wd
