There are two types of gages; mechanical and electric.
There are basicly three places to install the sensing end; Trans pan, trans port or any place in either the the feed or return lines to the radiator cooler and aux cooler.
The absolute temp action you see will depend on sensor location chosen.
Take your pick. The efforts vary with location and type of gage.
