Cold weather tranny issues
Cold weather tranny issues
Well it seems like I may have an issue with my tranny when it is pretty cold outside,0 degrees F or colder.
Truck(01 7700 with the 4R100 tranny) seems to go into reverse OK when initially backing out but when put into any forward gear will not move, revs will come up though.
After going back and forth reverse and forward a few times the truck will finally move in the forward gears.
Truck only has 65000 miles on it.
Tranny fluid fresh about 15K ago.
At no other time does it have any issues, only when very cold out!
Opinions please....
I was looking to buy a new truck in the near future and this may speed up the purchase.

I have the same problem in a pathfinder with 253,745 miles on the original transmission, it is a sign of wear on the friction disc's. the trans oil is like honey at low temp. the pressure needed to compress the friction disc's for foward is higher. as any automatic transmisson when it dies, only reverse still works cause those disc's are not worn as people don't drive in reverse much.
temporay fix= let the truck warm up for 15 min then drive gently untill trans oil heats up.
an automatic starter is great if you live in cold climate you can start your truck from the house when you start the coffee pot!
I have an after market one it works great.
