O/D taking longer to engage

I have the 4r70w in my 98 with 139k on it. I haven't touched the oil since i bought it in 10/05 with 117 on it. Tranny isn't shifting bad, isn't slipping or banging. The O/D just takes alot longer to engage when its cold out even after the truck has been warmed up for a while it sometimes takes longer to engage. I've had to let off the gas and ease into it to get it to engage. The o/d light is not blinking at all.

I was wondering if this is just the typical problem with bad fluid. Will changing it out fix it?

Possibly. Our fluid does get "worn out" Try changing it, and the filter, and see if it fixes it.

will do. Would you trust Aamco to do it or just bring it to ford?

The computer will not command O/D to engage until it measures the fluid temp and the temp is above a pre-programmed limit. It takes a lot longer in very cold weather to reach this temp. If there have been any changes in the factory-installed fluid cooling system, ie, an aftermarket cooler, then the difference in time may be even greater.
