That ROTAN shop looks pretty slick! I can't imagine the business figures behind it, namely the required insurance, but man I could see a place like that doing really well in the right area. Anyhow, thank you for the information, I'm going to call a buddy of mine when he gets home to see if I can lineup some help.

Jaspar transmissions aren't remanufactured?

Alan,

I'm a little confused regarding this post....

The Jaspar transmission I have in mind is a remanufacturer.... 3 year, 75k mile warranty. $2900 for replacement by a factory authorized installer. Ouch, but that isn't nearly as bad as what the ripoff artist (aka, "master mechanic") here in the Land of the Mouse quoted me.

If there's a better choice & deal, I'm listening! I've got to hang on to my '98 ex-cab for at least 2+ more years, and I really don't want to give it up anyway!

FYI, got tired of the wife nagggin and *$&%^ing in my ear over this crap so off to the dealer she went this morning. $3,700.

That's a reman'd trans (probably from Jasper LOL) 3yr, 75k warranty.

If I had time and or a spare vehicle I'd have gotten a Monster Box and driven on, it just wasn't in the cards this morning. jes2 look into the Monster Box at the FactoryTech link provided on the previous page, it comes with a Jasper warranty and is $2,633 for the 4R70W.

The jasper warranty has alot more stipulations yes they claim to pay labor, good luck finding a shop that will do it for what jasper pays for the labor. I wouldn't swap a 4x4 trans for $100, but they expect people to. Jasper isn't top dog in my book. The monsterbox transmissions are supposed to be built to specifications set by myself and Gregg, I have yet to confirm this. The very first 4r70w monsterbox was built on my bench with my very valuable core which I will never see again. I've been told it has been shipped to me numerous times but it has never made it to my door. Hopefully they are building them correctly. Jasper has burned me a few times. I have no clue what has happened to Gregg. If it were my choice I would rather have a reman over a direct jasper replacement. Hopefully the monsterbox they build is done correctly. I am not happy with what I have seen of my converter designs they have built I know that much. I know Darrin of BC Automotive very well and I have inspected his work several times. I know exactly what he puts into each and every unit and I am confident of the quality. Think of it this way. If you call Jasper wanting a replacement for your pre98 transmission they will absolutely want the core. In my opinion that core is dead weight. Why do they want it it isn't useable to my standards. Call BC-Automotive and tell him you have a pre97 transmission. He'll add $100 to the price and tell you to scrap the core unless he needs an output shaft or something like that that is specific to your vehicle and he doesn't have one. Keep in mind this has no bearing on me I build converters. I work hard to build the best converters I possible can. I certainly don't want to see a converter I have poured my blood sweat and tears into (in some cases usually dodge converters) get put into a transmission that is not up to par. At least with a factory reman transmission you can take it to any dealership in the country and they will fix it. With Jasper you have to find a shop that feels like it and is willing to do it for nothing.

That's a great looking tranny....

But after you get done with shipping, then you have to put it in. Don't have the time or quite the expertise to do it.

Now, if I could get someone to get it & put it in for less than an '07 F-150....

Well, that's something to think about.

The Ford reman tranny is a good idea. The trouble with getting a FoMoCo rebuilt tranny installed is the gangrape bill you'll receive at the end. The Ford dealers in this area damned near want you to fill out a mortgage app just for 30k service, for example.

I gotta do something soon - there's always the possibility (slim) that my tranny can be fixed for a reasonable amount, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Amsoil, my azzzzzz....

Change the filter, put the right kind of oil in it, and see if it goes back to working.

Well here's the deal.

I took the truck to Freedom Ford for a new trans. I was waiting at 0720 (they open at 0730) in the freezing arsed weather, when they opened the doors I went in and was pointed to a service team. They ask "What do you need?" "A transmission" I stated matter of factly. Poor poor Eric didn't understand that I'm not the typical guy who walks in there, nor do I care about the price I was quoted of $3700. I have accepted the situation and now want to resolve it as quickly as possible. He launches into his normal speech "Well we'll look at it and..." I cut him off "I don't care if you look at it or not, I want a new one, please order it." Again he starts with the "We'll have a tech look at it and if there's anything wrong the only option is to replace it." No chit. I know that. I said look, I know you have to 'look' at it and do your thing. I personally do not care if you take it (the transmission out and ride it around the parking lot like a rocking horse, I want a new one. He got this puzzled look on his face and said 'Alright, yessir!'

Sweet we're making progress here, or so I think. I left to go home and pick up my rental...left my cell number for a contact #. Promtly loose my cell phone (fell out in wife's expy), so I called to say 'hey call me at work and not on my cell'. No problems.

I also left the effing car seats in my truck...meant to take those out before dropping off the truck...Monday morning was living up to it's name. Monday afternoon my wife calls...you have to pick up the kids traffic sucks.

Great, so I'm pimping a Hyundai Sonota (FPOS! I mean utter cheap POS, fealt like I was dricing a beer can with bad steering) and have to go back to the dealer to get my seats. I callled good ole Eric up...hey it's me again...I'm a dumbazz and left my carseats in my truck..can I come get them?

He takes the opportunity to tell me that the tech has driven my truck but hasn't told him what is wrong with it....now ole Eric is a smart feller...before I could wind up to light into him he said "BUT I'M GOING TO ORDER IT, I'm going to order a new transmission now". Total time is supposed to be 4 days, so I can pick it up on Thursday. Sweet.

1400 on Thursday I call to see if I can divest myself of the rental and get my beloved truck back. The conversation goes like this "Hey Eric, it's P_D, is my truck ready by chance?" To which he replied 'Here's the problem we have". Hmm what did they do, drop my truck off a lift? Smash it? Break it in half? The warehouse never shipped the transmission. Here it is Thursday, 4 days later and they don't even have the *(&^$#)*#^)$&* transmission. Oddly enough I stayed calm and said "Okay". Supposedly the transmission was shipped on Thursday and if they got it in the morning I could pick my truck up Firday night...no problem.

I called at 1500 on Friday...still no transmission. Eric was rather apologetic and offered to give me a rental car on the dealerships dime, but I didn't need it...I was headed out of town. Since I was 'so patient' with them he said he'd see what he could do about the bill.

0555 (PST) my cell phone rang...it was Eric and my truck was ready, total damages $2889.XX. Now it worked out that I was out of town and didn't need a rental or my truck but it was still a PITA.

Today Freedom Ford called to do a customer satisfaction survey, I told them in no uncertain terms that they were screwed by their distributor and I hoped that whomever was in charge reamed them a new one, but that I was extreemely satisfied with Eric and could not commend him enough. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's crazy.. $2800. I was quoted $1,000 for mine to be rebuilt using stock parts... There's several transmission shops in town (2 or 3 of them are right next to eachother actually) and they all do very good work at very good prices...

The only way the shop would make anything doing that is if they did the transmission, didn't include a converter or install. Unless they scabbed used clutches and other parts.

Well it cool that Eric took care of you man. It is really crappy when you order parts and the guy on the other line tells you hey its goin to be in on a certain day and then the day comes and you have no parts and no eta. I have been in that situation numerous times at an RV dealership, and for a service writer to call back a customer with bad news you really need a heavy set of ***** to break the news to customer.
