MLPS 4R70W Testing
MLPS 4R70W Testing
Does anyone have/know a way to test the MLPS?
Problem: Will not shift out of 2nd gear.
1996 F150, 4R70W, 5.0L ~129K/mi.
I prefer to test mlps rather than just replace w/o knowing if it is bad.
I understand a corroded(s) ground will also affect MLPS, but where the hey are they?
Thanks for any info,

It's a simple switch with some terminals having resistors in series. The Haynes manual shows its internal wiring, so that & a cheap DMM are all you need to test it.
BTW
It's not the grounds - it's the switch itself. There was a water intrusion problem with the early MLPS, so now only the redesigned MLPS is sold anywhere. It requires moving the wire terminals into a new connector shell (provided with the MLPS), so plan on spending some quality time with your trans to swap it.
