Question about the C6

i have a 87 f150 with the C6 trans. When im driving around, whatever gear I put it in, it will go right into that gear with no hesitation or anything, wether it is floored or regular driving. I know newer vehichles dont do that, for example, if someone puts it in 1 at a red light and floors it, when they shift it to 2, it wont shift right away, but my truck will.

Now my question is, whats the cause of this? Does it have anything to do with the newer transmissions being electronicly controlled? Valve body?

Thanks for anyones help!

That's one reason.
Another is your C6 could have a condition that isn't quite normal.
If it isn't causing you a problem, not to worry unless it is a shocking engagement then it should be looked at.
I would like my 4r70 to respond a little quicker but is ok.
The newer trucks take a number seconds to respond, so feel lucky.
One complaint already on an 07 sport trak with 4.6L being so delayed as to deemed being dangerious for pulling out at a traffic stops, merging etc..

The C6 valve body was designed that way. There's nothing wrong with it. It will also start off in 2nd if you put the shifter there. Newer transmissions need input from the ECM, like vehicle speed, engine RPM, load percentage, throttle position, etc.....

Yup, that bad boy was designed in the 60s when trucks were trucks and men were proud of it...

You hit it exactly. No computer control, just good ole linkages and a vacuum line.

The vacuum kickdown should still have SOME effect on which gear engages. I'd go thru the band adjustment procedure & then check the vacuum modulator & vac line for leaks.
