Exclamation Need quick answer - Second Aux cooler?

My 99 4x4 with factory towing package already has the factory aux cooler.

1) Sufficient?
2) Add a second aux cooler?
3) Upgrade the current aux cooler (if feasible)?

Thanks.

Andy (in the middle of a trans fluid change!)

Depends on what your towing conditions are to warrent the need.
First be carefull of adding a second cooler. Not in series.
Consider replacing with the largest "low pressure drop" size you can fit in the space.
Then if your still in question, put a thermostaticlly controlled fan on it set at about 180° to 200°. The fan won't run under normal loads until needed.

Exactly , I plan on doing this as well.. - also I've read , haven't verified - that theres a port on the side of your trans already there you can use for a temp gage if you want to monitor yourself.

Good Luck

Thanks, guys.

Towing a 4500# travel trailer right now, but could be heavier in the future. Shouldn't get so bad as to need a fan, though. (I'd upgrade to a 250 before I'd struggle with this truck that bad.)

Not sure what you mean by "not in series." No other way to plumb the thing, is there?

Planning to put Aux cooler #2 after the factory coolers in the return line, or is your suggestion to pull the factory aux cooler and install a better, bigger one?

Andy

Decided to leave the factory aux cooler in place for now. Have had several folks say it's up to the task for most normal towing duties. I can always swap it out later if necessary. Thanks.

Yeah , there's not really that much room up there, they stuck an oil cooler up there as well on my model - opposite the trans cooler. I'm not sure who offers a good cooler kit for the truck. I'll be looking soon.

Still trying to figuer mine out. Spend about 2 hours a day searching the web, can't find one instance of trans shudder at take off - They all seam to do this midrange to OD. Same with converter. Something will give most likely - Then I'll know what it was lol..
