This Trans Cooler OK?
This Trans Cooler OK?
Hi everyone.
I'm planning to install FactoryTech's separator plate in my 210K-mile 4R70W, and thought while I'm at it, and the system's drained, I'd add a trans cooler as recommended by several folks. I bought the truck to pull a 4000# travel trailer occasionally, and would like some additional insurance. I'm considering getting this B&M unit rated at 14,400 BTU:
B&M 70264

Note: Several online dealers rate this unit at "24,000 GVW" but I don't know where they got this spec.
Wondering if you folks consider this acceptable. (Or overkill?) Are there other (better) units I should consider?
Also, what about mounting? Is there room for a 1.5" cooler in front of the rad? Also, I've read where the units should not be closer than 1" from the radiator, and suppose I can add some rubber spacers (if necessary) if I use the zip-ties, though I've seen some people say "no way" to the zip-tie method in any case. Recommendations?
All input will be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.
Andy

Thats a good lookin unit. The stacked plate style are way better than the tube-in-fins for cooling.
I'm gonna use the zip tie method for the '02 when I get to it.

Thanks, guys. I'll probably do the same, then.
$50 insurance will be going on shortly. (Well, over the winter sometime.)
