Stupid AOD... From O-Reilly... Came messed up...

Put it all in. spent 14 hours. Park is trying to drive against itself (and won't start or un in park...), neutral is slightly trying to move and is the only place I can start the truck.

What the FUDGE???

If I put it in park, the engine dies as if the tranny is locked. Putting it in drive, it has no power...

So I look on their website. I got the regular AOD for a truck. Apparently there is a "bullet proof" AOD. Why sell the other, huh? So I'm calling them tomorrow and telling them that I want the strongest gearbox they can get a hold of. Dangit.

Ok a little logic here. If park is trying to drive against itself something is wrong.......If you want a bulletproof AOD you don't want anything to do with a chain retail store that sells some rebuilt transmissions all you are going to get is an aod with alto clutches in it. The best combination of an aod would be a lentech with different frictions. Any aod that uses the stock direct drive is a junkbox. The direct drive system makes them weak by nature.

Yeah, something is wrong! The problem is, these transmissions are dyno tested. And now it's doing this... I mean, it drove for a short distance, and worked just fine. Of course, it was only like half a mile...\\I really don't need any kind of performance stuff, I just need it to work...

Yeah, I may have to go with a better unit. I am going to give them another try, and if it doesn't work out, I am going to have my original rebuilt. There are a few reputable shops around here, and I can get them to rebuild it for about the same amount as the reman. I'll be installing it as well, so that will save me some money.

I'm not impressed with any of the big name "reman" transmissions those places make money buy scabbing together whatever parts they can find and selling it at a huge profit. They have to do that to cover the warranty costs when you have to ship them back and forth all the time. Find a small local shop that is familiar with the transmission and you will be better off.

Eh, I'm going to give them another go. I like the idea of all the internal parts being replaced, not just worn or out of spec parts. I think I know what went wrong. Well, here's to having my truck up and running by Tuesday!

Replacement parts don't have to be better than existing parts. For alot of the parts I would prefer to have a good used than a cheap chinese knockoff part and ford doesn't have alot of the stuff available anymore. All of the internal parts cannot be replaced even from the day it was new there were parts you just could not buy because there was no need to sell them.
