Question 04 automatic low speed shudder/strange shift.

I have an 04 new style 8200 GVW 5.4 automatic. Sometimes, but not every time, at low speeds I feel a shudder or bind in the drivetrain. This is when I am stopping at a stop sign at about 10 - 0 mph. Then as I start to drive away the transmission shifts hard. I have slipped the trans into neutral while this shudder is occuring and the problem goes away.
I have spoke to a Ford mechanic who thought it might be the converter staying locked up. Ford then tried replacing the turbine speed sensor and flashing the computer. No better.
Any ideas on what this problem is?

From: Georgia on my mind...
If the converter was still locked up, the engine would probably stall when you come to a stop.

I'd guess the driveshaft slip yoke is binding up. Edit - Or maybe incorrect pinion angle.

A locked convertor is just like not pressing the clutch on a stick.

Possibly my mechanic meant the converter was just late unlocking and that was what caused the shudder.

Yes that is it. I was back at Ford for tests. They say it is the converter staying locked till I reach a low speed. The shudder I hear [feel] at about 5 mph is the converter unlocking. They don't know where the problem lies. They say it could be wiring inside the trans. Exterior wiring checks out OK. Could be the valve body or converter. Expensive to try one thing and not hit the problem.
