Cool 05 XLT trans

Hi everyone, how ya doin? Quick question, I have an 05 F150 XLT with the 5.4 and every now and then the trans will shift 1st to 2nd real hard right around 15-20 sometimes i get a humming noise to, only from 1st to 2nd though. Ive already got 32,000 on her and thats my only complaint besides the vibration from 60-70 that everyone seems to have. So anyways has anyone else had this problem? Would a shift kit help or mabey the edge? any help would be appreciated.

I HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND I AM GETTING THE SAME NOISE. WHEN YOU START OFF AND GET AROUND 20MPH WHEN IT SHIOFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR IT SOMETIMES MAKES A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. I HAVE HAD IT ALSO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE FROM 1ST TO 2ND. NEITHER ONE OF THESE PROBLEMS DOES IT ALL THE TIME. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO DO IT. THEY SAID THEY CAN'T REPAIR IT UNLESS THEY HEAR THE PROBLEM.

My 4.6 does the same thing when I am accelerating very slowly or let off the gas before it shifts. The Edge didn't really help it, it just made my shifts firmer all around.

Ford has a TSB on this problem. It is a software problem and is easily corrected.

You can look up your vehicle TSB here:http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/

You can then tell the dealer the TSB number of your problem and they don't have to "hear" it to correct it. This is what I did to correct the problem.

I hope this helps

So the dealer falshed my computer and WOW! I've got firmer shifts all around and it feels like there might be a little bit more get up. Thanks again for everyones info, P.S. the dealer said the TSB did not include my truck(05 XLT) but i had them flash it anyway. Thanks again.

Glad to help. BTW, As I recall, it covered all 04 and 05 F-150's produced before April 20, 2005.
