Help Fast! Please!

OK, So I sheared the roll pin in my transmission. It is a 1997 F-150... 4.2 litre V6. Two wheel drive. Third and Fourth gears are the only gears not working. I went to the local mechanic and he said $250 labor... So the question I have is can I replace the roll pin by myself? He said something about taking all the clutch and everything and taking the transmission apart... but, can i get to the roll pin through the hole in the floor of the truck after you take the stick boot off?? Any help would be wonderful.... Thanks alot
