question off the wall about a aeod 40 trans.

I am needing to get thoughts here about why my transmission would shift in and out of overdrive to drive repeatedly while driving. This trans is in a Eaod 40 and is in a E-350 with a 7.3 diesel. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First, it's an E4OD. No such thing as Eaod 40.

Your problem is a bad Transmission Range Sensor (TRS.) It's the electronic part on the driver's side of the trans, where the shift cable attaches. Get a new one and your problem will be gone.

Well I do believe it is my problem but its strange, I called every autopart store in my area (charleston sc) and not one single store has ever heard of a trs sensor as you say here. What is another name for this part other than a trs? Thanks for the help again in advance.

TRS also goes by MLP for Manual Lever Position (sensor)
