Towing power

I am new to this board and really don't know much about all this stuff. I have a 2004 F-150 with the 4.6L engine and haven't modified the truck at all. I want to add a leveling kit and wheels/tires but I also tow a 4500lb boat. I have already noticed climbing the mountain passes in the NW that this truck just doesn't have the pulling power I would like (40mph over the pass isn't cutting it). What can I do to solve my problem? Do I need to look into changing the gear ratios in my truck before I upgrade the wheels/tires?

I'd appreciate any help or advice you are willing to offer. Thanks.

Yea gears would be a good idea. Also I would look into a tuner. I have the Edge and it dose pretty good. Although I have not pulled anything substanial yet. Those two would help you out alot I think.

More important to know what gears you have now. I'm not familiar with what is available stock on the new ones, so post the axle code that can be found on your door jam sticker.

The axle code listed on the door jam sticker is 19.

How much did your tuner cost you? Did you install it yourself?
