trucks apart need an answer please

beofre i was going to do the trasnmission fliud change, I had to replace a rear axel seal....i am ready to put the new seal in and notice in the groove on the end of the axel where the C-Clip goes..is an O- RING!!!!.....is that just to keep the clip in place ..pressure wise I mean while I assemble...or is it supposed to be some form of seal???? I dont think the book says anything about it....

I have a 02 fx4 f 150.......with limited slip rear......and disc brakes..if any of that matters...thanks

Ill move onto the trans fliud change while I wait for some feedback on the axel o ring

thanks alot

bob

This is just used to help retain the C-clip when the axle is assembled at the plant. Doesn't make a flip's difference whether it's there or not afterwards.
