Trans Code "F"???

Hi all. Just a newbie here. And I don't know that much about auto repair, But I'm a quick learner. I've got a 1990 F150 Lariat XLT. The door label sais the Trans. code is "F". I've searched and searched the web looking for what kind of tranni i've got, and can't figure it out. It's got the heavy duty service body on the back, and a 4.9L 6 cylinder engine. The ID tag attached to the tranni is rusted so bad that I can't read it. Any ideas at all what trani i might have in this? It's a 4 speed manual (I.E....1st theough 4th and reverse). Or any ideas where I might be able to find this info. This is my new work truck. And I'm on a shoestring budget, so doing as much of the work as I can myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks In Advance

My data onhand only goes back to 92.

For the 92, a TRANS code of "F" is shown as a Borg Warner T-18 4-speed tranny.

Yours is much likely the same.

Good luck!

Thumbs up

Hey! Thanks for the great info. Helped out a lot.

Any advise for lossening a rusted filler plug beyond the typical liquid-wrench/wd40 plan?

Yes, I can get some pics. Gotta charge my camera first though. Will post them here later this week.

Thanks again!
