Auto transmission ID

How do I identify a transmission. Is the a model number or anything like that I am replacing one in my F150, an E4od, but the one I got is too short, even the connections will not mate. Don't have the original trans to compare.

First, there is a blue tag on the driver's door jamb. It will have either a U or an E under TR. U means 4R70W and E means E4OD.

Then, 4x2 and 4x4 transmissions of each of those are different. You must use the right one.

Auto Trans ID

The truck takes an E4od, and I have one. It is too short, and the fluid lines and cables will not couple. I wanted to know how to identify these transmissions to see which one I have, and when I exchange it, to know I get the correct one.
Thanks,
Sarge
