help figure out if i have a tranny issue.

Please help me figure out this tranny issue. I will be replacing the motor and tranny eventually. I can only do one at a time due to finances, so want to make sure I do the one most needed first. 140K miles on truck.
Starts right up and sounds good except for the hole in the exhaust manifold. If I rev it in neutral there is sometimes as small backfire.

Here it goes.
Put truck in gear, takes 2 or 3 seconds for her to “catch”, same if put into reverse. Once it catches it just goes!, 1st gear is strong as is all the others. If I put it in gear and do not let it catch, the engine just revs up a bit then it catches and like bangs into gear. However between shifts there is a delay. The delay depends on how hard I am excelerating. Harder the acceleration, longer the delay. When it catches gear it kind of like slightly bangs into gear and starts going strong again. I changed the tranny fluid, did some lucas tranny treatment and it helped out a lot.
Rookie question, could it just be the torque converter not locking up and that is what is causing the slip?
Also there is a small tranny leak, you look under the truck and there is always a small drop about to drip in the front of the tranny, been like that for months, big spot on the street infront of my house, however the fluid level never drops!!!!!!

Do you have a valve body, shift kit, or tuner that you bumped up the pressure?

yes
do you think it could be the torque converter slipping?

Choice ?

It's easy, your motor is running fine. Your tranny is not running fine. Have your tranny replaced or rebuilt, it's pretty straight forward. Later on, if you want to rebuild the motor, that's no problem. Your tranny will stay well intact during the engine upgrade and then you'll be good to go. You'll just have to put out the dinero just like the rest of us.

This is unlikely to be the TC.

More likely, it's a failure of the pump or valve body or other hydraulic hailure. However, anything is just a guess without performing any diagnostics on it.

What year and transmission are you discussing, a Bronco of some unknown vintage or the 02 in your profile?
