Torqshift in an F150???
I have an 04 F150 FX4 supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4L and an auto trans. I'm trying to find out if it's possible to put a torqshift in an F150? I know that the engine in the f250 is the exact same thing as in my truck but I don't know about torq converter to flywheel, linkage, T case, driveshaft length and computer compatibilities. Has anyone heard of this modification? I would like to hear from people who know what they're taking about
. I was kinda hopeing that ford would do this on there own, at least in the Supercrew, or maybe even a f150 only 5 speed auto, the 4 speed just doesnt tow quite as good as i'd like it to. it would be killer if someone made a conversion kit
.
hope to hear from you techs out there.
Jack.

? I thought I read somewhere that the torqshift does not talk to the ECM when chooseing which gear to go into but instead uses it's own computer to choose which gear to go into based on the load put on it, hence the name Torqshift. and I also need to know if the computer in the current F150 controls the tranny as well as the engine? if so, is it possible to plug an F250's ECM into and F150, I would assume this would be possible so as to keep things simple in the manufacturing process. To put it bluntly, I need someone who knows what they're talking about in order to get the right answers

The F150 will get it's own 5 speed auto in another couple years.
I think you'd end up with a floorpan that's beaten to death and a gaggle of wires and such trying to get a Torqshift to work in an F150.

I would think a manual swap would get you the same great towing and not 50 miles of superduty wiring.
You could get a ZF5 with the modular bolt pattern in 99, but that would be pretty hard to find. A ZF6 from behind a 5.4, 6.8, or 6.0 would only be a challenge of mounting and not an electrical engineering senior project.
Oh and welcome to the forums too! Hows wheelin in Alaska?

There are several stand alone transmission controllers on the market and converter lock controllers.
I don't know what your trying to accomplish but this may be a cheaper way and much simpler to investigate.
The converter lock controller keeps the converter locked up to a much lower road speed as a means of engine braking and helps in less brake pad wear when slowing down under normal driving and should run the trans at a cooler level. It uses the speed sensor as a signal to the controller, that is adjustable.
The trans controllers are all programable and use various inputs to achive results.
Baumann Engineering is one source.

This swap will cost A LOT to get it to work. None of the wiring or the computer that's in the truck now are going to work.
It might work if you get the engine and transmission wiring and computer from a truck with a TorqShift.
