Dashboard gear indicator is wrong???

Hello,

I am brand new to the forum and would appreciate any help. My 2001 Screw 4x4 dash board gear indicator is off. Example park is in the R position. Nuestral is in the drive position. Drive is in the 2position.

Any Ideas...

Thanks,

Mark

It's just a needle adjustment pretty easy to fix.

I had a 92 Dodge Dakota and the needle was attached to a piece of line, something like fishing line with a piece of metal folded over it to pull the gear indicator. The dealership wanted big buck to fix it.
I opened up the dash and folded the lead end of a 22 cal bullet over the line and it was correct again.

Had the same problem with my 98 Lariat. There is an adjustment wheel located under the steering column just behind the dash. It looks very similar to fine-tuning wheels that you find on bicycle brakes. Hope this helps.

nothing needs to be taken apart. Just lay on your back and look under the dash, near the steering column. You will see a little adjustment wheel about 1" in diameter with a cable running through the middle of it. Turn the wheel until the indicator is correct.

Thumbs up

Mine had slipped at some point as well. Figured I would just have to deal with it, but it was still annoying. Found the little wheel... black in color, just to the passenger side of the column, just up from the column joint.

Annoying problem solved

Mine did the same thing out of nowhere...for the longest time I thought the linkage was off but I never knew it would be such an easy fix.
