Transmission shutter in OD, 2000 f150

Have a 2000 5.4 f150 4x4. yesterday noticed what at first I thought a wheel out of balence? but after a while seemed more like a shutter and a bit of surging / slipping feeling when in OD. If I take out of OD seems OK, problem gone. No check engine light on. Stopped and checked fluid level and OK. shut truck off for about 2 min then went on my way....no problems for next hour on hwy. was fine this morning but cold not a long trip. any ideas, transmission on the way out do you think? Have 90K now and serviced at 60K trasmission has not had a hard life...no towing.

The fluid has 30k miles on it. It's time to change it again. One of the symptoms of worn out trans fluid is a shudder in overdrive.

Shudder

I thought I was tranny trouble also.Took the truck to a mech.He put the truck in drive stepped on the brake and gave it the gas you could feel the miss.Ended up Ineeded cop#6 and after a 142000, changed the plugs Drove it to wark today with no problems. The problem with the coil pack was that it failed because of oil either from the vavle cover gasket or maybe some oil was left from a messy oil change

I had the same problem and it ended up being a miss in the engine. The tranny problems came later.
