Just Recently My Tranny started giving me problems. From a stop it will slip and suddenly shift hard into 1st gear. When I hold my foot on the brake It feels like it shifting in and out of gear. The truck has 160,000k on its a 4.2L 1997 F150. So I took it in to get it serviced and it still does it. Then it threw a shift solenoid code so i had that replaced. Now the tranny shop is saying i need a whole rebuild $1800. I dont want to rebuild the tranny, My motor just took a **** on me (head gasket, coolant in cylinder), so i cant really afford it. Does this sound like a tranny rebuild? Or maybe its the torque converter.

What is the history of the truck? Do you tow? Haul? When have the fluid changes been done? What fluid was used?

I bought the truck used @ 70K. I've done all the regular maintenance on the truck. The Fluid was changed at 70k and then again last week at 160k. I have always driven sensible, never have hauled or towed anything. After getting the fluid changed (I don't what kind of fluid) it threw a Shift Solenoid B code. The tranny shop said to bring it in and they would take care of it. They ended up charging me nothing to fix it, which i thought was really nice.They said they shold have caughten it the first time. Then it started shuttering while lightly on the throttle sometimes and it feels like its lightly shifting into gear while brakes are held, again only sometimes. Just tonight it threw another Shift B code. Thanks for any help.
