Transmission type

I have a 1998, Ford F150 XLT, 2 WD, Automatic. Does anyone know what type of transmission it has? or do I have to actually look at the tag on it? I don't have access to it right now and I need to order a filter for it. I've looked it up in various places and I am getting conflicting info. Thanks!

If it is a 4.2L V6 or a 4.6L V8, then it's a 4R70W. If it is a 5.4L it could be either a 4R70W or a 4R100.

Unless it is the rare chance of being a late 98 F-150 7700 package where the 4.6L did get the 4R100. Usually in 98 though it was still called the F-250LD, but the 98-99 was a fuzzy changeover for all the F series.

Safe assumption it is the 4R70w. Easiest way to tell would be a trans code of U on the door jam sticker. The 4R100 is E.
