Trans Fluid Question
Checked my trans fluid today and have a few questions.
The dipstick has four distinct levels on it. "Add, cold, warm, don't add." With the truck fully warmed up, my dipstick reads at the top of 'cold.' Is this considered low? I assume it is. What type of fluid should I add? The dipstick calls for Mercon V, the manual calls for Mercon. I have several bottles of Dexron II Mercon, several of Dexron III Mercon, several Type F, and several Mobil 1 ATF. Will any of these work, or is there a specific Mercon V I need to get?
Truck is an 02 5.4 4x4. I think it is the 4r70w (trans code U) and I'm pretty sure I need mercon V but I'm just making sure.

Alrighty, proper way to check an automatic tranny is after a trip to get it warm, go from P to 1 and back to P pausing in each gear for a few seconds. Level should be somewhere in the crosshatched area on the warm side of the dipstick.
The E4OD/4R100 (trans code E on door jam sticker) requires Mercon. Dexron III is GM's version of Mercon
The 4R70w (trans code U on the door jam sticker) requires Mercon V. This is for any year no matter what the dipstick or manuals say.
