Exclamation how much oil...

i have a 97 F-150 4.2 2WD 5 speed. i can't seem to find the owners manual to check how much oil i need and i've been using the oil gauge on the dash to check it( 9 quarts registers 3/4 on the gauge- the dipstick i have isn't the right one). If anyone has my truck i'd appreciate it if you could tell me the correct amount.
-thanks again

I'm guessing 6 qts, NOT 9. The gauge on the dash is oil pressure, not telling you if it is full or not. Try calling a dealership near you.

Ummm, what?

Your in the tranny section so do you mean the tranny? It is just filled to the top of the fill hole.

If you mean the engine, wrong forum, and your reading the gauge wrong. It is oil pressure. You could be down to two quarts and still have "good" pressure. In fact, that gauge is nothing more than an idiot light designed by ford to NOT move so **** retentive people don't freak if it moves.

I'm not familar enough with the 4.2 to say the exact value, but I know that 9 quarts is WAAAAY overfull.
