1997 F-150 4x4 shifting problem

1997 F-150 4x4 shifting problem

I have a manual shift lever to get into 4x4 , and sometimes it won't shift into 4x4, has anyone had the same problem ?

I am assuming you have an auto tranny, as the manual tranny like mine was rare.

I have to pull with a bit of force if I don't have the clutch in, but it should still move. Try neutral if you have the auto.

For 4x4 low range, you must be in neutral, or have the clutch in.

It is the auto transmision , you can/t shift it at all with two hands ?

I had some trouble initially also. I put Mobil One transmission fluid in my transfer case and it really seemed to shift better. I don't remember the last time I had any trouble. I think it was about two quarts(don't remember for sure).

First thing to do is lube the shift linkage. I am guessing that it never was done.
