1995 Tranny swap
1995 Tranny swap
I'm converting my 95 F150 5.8 from an E40D to an M5R2 five speed. I think I have most of the coversion's parts figured out, such as the master and slave cylinders etc. What I'm concerned with are the ECM, throttle position sensor, and speed sensor. When the auto is out it will leave some wires "hanging". If this only causes an error code when a scan is done, and does not affect the performance of the truck, then I don't care. With the TPS, if any of you have a 95 F250 w/ 5.8 5 speed, and can give me the part number off of your TPS, that would sovle that problem. The speed sensor, I'm guessing will be the same, I hope. Any help much appreciated.
i dont see why the tps would be any different im doing the swap in a 95 that had a 302 but im putting a 351 from a 97 in and the tps's are all the same plus autozones website dont ask which trans you have for a tps
you should get the harness for the 5spd trans that plugs in right under the bake mastercylinder that has the speesd sensor plug and eliminates all the extra wires for the auto
have you measured both trans yet because my M5R2 is 1in shorter than the 4R70W that was in it but there should be enough spline to still work

For M5R2 info, try sccoa.com, the supercoupe uses the M5R2 as well.
As far as the computer issues go, contact SCT. I'm pretty sure they can help.
I have an F250 5.8L 5-speed. Wouldn't it make more sense to use the stock transmission? I've driven a SC, and believe it or not I like my F250's shifter better, and I'm sure it has a higher rating than a M5R2.
I couldn't find a PN on my TPS.
The M5R2 is a stock Mazda built F150/250 transmission from about 1990 up. I removed this tranny from a pure stock wrecked 92 F250. If you have a five speed it's either one of these or a ZF tranny which is much better. Rebuild kits are readily available from several companies and they're not all that expensive.

The e40d only tps is for diesel motors only, it doesn't matter on a gas motor. The thing is the diesels had very bad problems with them so when napa opens the computer it gives them a big tab on it. Why would you do a m5 swap anyway? I would sooner convert it to a c6.

Thanks for the answer on the TPS.
The M5 is just what I conveniently have along with the pedal setup and hydlaulic lines. It's in great shape. The swap is only to satisfy my preference for a 5 speed and pass my time. My E40D isn't really that bad and probably wouldn't cost much to fix. Rebuilding is another story. I spent 1675.00 to rebuild the 4L60E in my LT1 Caprice this year and I can only imagine tacking on another five or six hundred for this tranny. I do agree with you on the C6 I had a TH350 for a Camaro I'm restoring done for 600.00. I would guess a C6 rebuild is about the same, but I think the 3 speed would kill me on gas. And, this truck is a pig the way it is. Anyway if it's a mistake, I'll make it right. But either way I'll have some fun doing it. The truck is basically a basket case that I'm slowing fixing as a side project. It's paid for and very salvageable. I'm just going to make it something I like to drive agian. Kind of like when it ran and shifted the right way and wasn't rotting away in the quarters. It will just be a daily driver. Otherwise, this truck will just rot away in my yard or get parted out. If I was going to seek out a tranny I would go with a ZF for sure. BTW, to solve my comp. problem, I'm going to use an ECM out of a 94 F250 5.8 five speed with standard emissions.
