Tranny Question...

I have a 2001 Expy 4.6 (auto tranny). If I am stopped at a light and put the shifter into Drive 2 then start accellerating, the transmission starts of in second gear, not first gear as I would expect it to do. Is this normal in these trucks? Shouldn't the tranny start out in 1st gear then shift to 2 gear and stay there? Any help is apprecited!

Thanks,

Anthony

That is what is supposed to happen. It is for low traction starts like in snow. This keeps from having too much power to the rear wheels and them just spining. I had a GM product years ago that started in 1st no matter where the selector was. What a pain in the butt.

All Fords will start in 2 when the shifter is in 2. That's normal.

Yep, they start in second gear and stay there. Handy in snow/ice.

Hey what tranny do you have? The 4R70w, or the 4R100?

4r70w is trans code of U on the door jam sticker and the 4R100 has a code of E.
