VR70W NEED A MECHANIC"S HELP PLEASE
i have a 2002 f-150 auto and i'm wanting to change the tranny fluid and filter,
i want to change all the fluid in it. i went to take the rubber plug out of the bottom of tranny and took a 18mm socket and turned the motor slowly watching for a torque converter plug, turned the coverter all the way around and found NO plug at all. so how do i change all the fluid in the tranny now?
i bought 14 QTS of fluid and filter and friction modifer from ford. how would you guys do it now??

well why did the man at ford tell me to add the friction stuff?
is he trying to tear me tranny up?
he said it was to stop shuddering during drive and overdive shifting

Putting modifier in the trans will certainly stop it from shuddering, if it is, but it causes a (lenghtened) permant slip on lockup and unlock, that shortens it's life then you will have to replace it anyway.
Put another way it takes the condition from a shudder completely through to a longer slip time. Neither one is a controlled condition the way it's suppose to work.
The lockup generates the highest friction heat during the time it begins the lockup contact and again at that slip time during unlock. This is the action you will change by lengthening the time and slip.
Trans shudder is the fast grabbing and let go of the converter clutch (chatter) in a fluid. Sometimes there are different reasons for it. Fluid contamination, lock up control, something broke etc.
Just an opinion but sometimes dealers will do this on a service complaint to get the truck out the door, seeming fix the problem, and knowing full well it will be back some other time when the lock up slips full time.
You make the final judgement, we just try to provide the info about it, you didn't have.
