'01 5.4 SuperCrew Stuck in Park

Hello everyone -

This has not been my month for my truck. First the A/C heat/cool module, then the cruise control - now this....

This morning I was trying to leave for work and my truck would not come out of Park. I turned the switch, pressed the brake, then tried to pull out of park. The thing will not budge. Then tried pressing the brake, turning the switch, still couldn't come out of park.

I told the truck I was just kidding when I stopped by and looked at a new Tuscany Edition a couple of weeks ago. I didn't mean to offend my truck.

Seriously - if anyone has any simple troubleshooting ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

I did replace a couple of fuses - believe #5 and #21 - I left in a hurry and I didn't write down which ones I swapped - they were the 15A kind.

Thanks for any advice -

Mike

Do your brake lights work? If they don't it won't come out of park.

To get it out of park, turn the key ONE click towards on. This is the spot before anything electrical comes on. Now try moving the shifter. If it move, move it to neutral to start the truck.

Do not Force it.
The shifter is hollow and can be snapped off because of the OD wire running thru it.

(don't ask me how come I know this)

Thanks for advice - it worked. But yet again - I have discovered yet another problem.

Recap:
Approx. 3 weeks ago - A/C Quit working, replaced cool/heat module
Approx. 2 weeks ago - Cruise Went Out
Yesterday morning - Couldn't get out of park.
Yesterday afternoon - Windows will not go down.

This is starting to make me crazy. I don't know what would be causing these problems, if they are related, just random problems or what.

I was thinking if it is electrical - could it be the battery is running down? I am still on the original battery that was came with it in Aug. '01 when I bought it.

SHould I just break down and take it to the Dealership and let them hook it up?

Any advice would be appreciated,

Michael
