Transmission Problem, HELP
A Buddy Of Mine has a 2001 4.2 V-6 F-150. With a 5 speed.
A puddle of brake/clutch fluid underneath of the body. And the Clutch is disabled. It's had a slow leak for over 3 months. And Has been adding brake fluid to the clutch continuously.
Today He was driving, and while at a stoplight. Shifted into first and heard a clank. And bam, no more clutch.
Is there a hose that may have popped off? Or a small seal that needs to be replaced? Or does his transmission need to be taken off for whatever the repair is.
If you could leave messeges back or any opinions, much thanks.

Opinion: Why did he keep running the truck that long with a known problem?
Sounds like a hose has fully split from the slow leak it had.
Hope he doesn't do it with a brake problem, sometme.

M50D Tranny? Probably the clutch slave cylinder. A quick inspection of the underside of the truck should reveal the prob. Oil doesn't run up the hill, so just look for the highest spot that's oily. If the bell housing and the bottom of the tranny look to be "washed down" with oil, its most likely the slave cylinder. The tranny will have to be pulled out to fix this. Now is also a great time to put in a new throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, clutch disk, and maybe even a pressure plate. Might as well fix it right while you're in there. Probably looking at less than $500 in parts. Add another $2-300 for labor (just my "guestimate"). The slave cylinder itself---from Ford --- is over $100.
