M5OD tranny leak, please advise

I posted about this a while back, and got most of the information I needed, I am now ready for the job. I am starting a new thread hoping to get answers to some other questions I have before I start. I did post this question under the original thread but figured starting a new one might get me an answer a little faster.

M5OD Leak in an E-150.

The weather is nice, not cold, no rain so I am going to take care of the leak this week, finally.

I wanted to know if I have to drop the drive shaft at the rear, or if I can lower it at the coupling shaft support bracket. Its a split shaft and I have to order the special socket to remove the shaft at the rear. That will delay things.

I have to lower the shaft to get the cross member out. This is an E-150.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Thanks
Frank D

Edit: Does the dust cover with the 3 allen screws have to be removed as well? Or can it be left in place and just the top cover of the tranny come off?

Sorry,

Its the M5OD shift plug leak (I guess thats what they call it), in the Mazda 5 speed OD tranny. There are 3 rubber plugs that have to be replaced. I had all the info in the original post from January.

Just for reference, I think a 12 point 12mm wrench will remove the bolts in the plate at the diff.
