Slipping from 1st-2nd and Code 1730

I sometimes get a blinking light on the shifter (not always) so I took the truck to a shop and they said it is slipping between first and second and has a code of 1730. The truck has 96k miles. Is there any possibility this problem could go away with a filter and fluid change? Does anyone know anything about the code 1730?

This truck has a 4.6 engine with auto & 4x4.

Thanks.

Could it be P1731? P1730 isn't a valid code, but P1731 means a 1-2 shift error. That means that the computer has detected that the shift from 1-2 takes longer than it should.

New fluid and filter might help, but not likely. It's more likely that there is a broken accumulator spring. That is not hard or expensive to change. There is at least one thread running here that addresses that repair.

Here is the link for the broken 1-2 accumulator spring repair. There is a great article posted about the simple repair which is worth checking out.
