Question 99 2wd to 4wd???

Ive searched and found nothing on my year. I have a 99 f-150 that was givin to me. I pull cars sometimes and go up muddy mountains and i could feel how 2wd sucks when its muddy or u need that extra push to get the job done. I wanted to know if its possible to convert a 99 f-150 from 2wd to 4wd? how much work is it and how much am i looking at to spend? I can do the job myself. Im only 17 but i know how to work on cars and trucks. I have the 4.6L v8 so let me know what can i do. I dont want any lockers or any of that stuff. I want a 4 x 4 and dont want to sell my truck and get another one.

Convert it to a sold axle 4x4 system. The 4x2 frame is different so to use the IFS 4x4 system of your mofdel year will at the very least include a 4x4 frame.

Like JMC said a solid axle would probably be the way to go but don't look for this to be a cheap thing to do. You will have to swap tail housings with a 4x4 to bolt up the tcase, modify the driveshafts because I would bet the front from a newer one is not the right length, not to mention redo the entire front suspension and custom fab most of the hardware to mate the solid front axle to the 4x2 frame. That would probably be the biggest challenge. You would want to go with a ford front diff so the diff is on the correct side of the truck. It will be a lot of work but keep us posted if you decide to go through with it.
