Transmission Cooler
Transmission Cooler
I am going to install a transmission cooler on 1993 F-150 - 302 motor. Does the cooler get installed on the top line or bottom line at the radiator? I was not sure which was the return line to the transmission.
Thanks for the help.

Away to tell. With engine running and cool, put in gear and do a high throttle stall (foot brake holding truck), for about 45 seconds.
Shut down, then check which line is the warmer at the radiator.
Put your cooler in the other line (cooler to feel). This is the return line back to the transmisssion and at lower pressure.
Be sure the clamps are on tight because during cold temps, the pressure goes up until the fluid warms. The cooler make this take longer.

I've got a '99 F150; the hot fluid out of the trans goes in the top of the radiator and the "cooled" fluid comes out the bottom line to return to the trans.
I took the bottom line off, got a Hayden trans. kit and ran the fluid out of the radiator cooler to the trans cooler; the outlet of the trans cooler then attached to the disconnected line, taking fluid back to the trans.
Hope this helps.
