92 F-150 5speed pain to shift when cold
Just picked up a 92 F-150 4.9 with a 5 speed. When it's cold (sitting overnight) I have a real hard time shifting. The pedal stays down and I have to lift under it with my toe to pop it back up. Then to shift gears sometimes I have to double clutch. Once the truck is drive for 20-30 minutes it's fine. Any ideas?

It's the temp. Things warm up and shifting is fine... You can try a good synthetic fluid, it may help. I ran Redline MTL in previous manual trans cars I owned, smoothed-up shifting a bit. But it doesn't get all that cold here in CA...
Thanks for the info. I ran home from work during lunch to check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. Whoever put the lid on must have torqued it. Had to use channel locks to get it off. Checked it and it was completely empty. Filled it up and I have a clutch back. I'm going to look underneath tonight and see if anything is leaking. Since it's a 92 I guess you have to pull the trans to replace the slave? If that's it this is gonna suck. I bought this truck as a work truck since I blew the rearend in my Jeep.

Yep, the tranny has to come out to get the slave out on those. Be sure and check it because those are notorious for leaking. Just FYI my 88 was that way when it was cold with the fluid full. When it got really cold the clutch was really sluggish. You just had to hope you didn't have to pull out from anywhere fast or it would about jerk you to death when it did take hold.

My 92 does the same thing, not THAT bad, but still a little slow. Used to be in the garage before i got my 84, so it wasn't a problem, but now i just kinda ease into it when it is really cold out.
