Shifting into drive

I have a 1990 f150 4x4 that I don't drive a whloe lot. But the other day I put it in drive and pressed on the gas and it took it a little while to kick into gear and go. When I stoped at a stop sign and tried to go go, again it took it a little while to kick into gear. Once I drove it for awhile it was then ok. Any thoughts as to what this might be?

Thanks,
newbe...gbergkamp

Sounds like it might be low on tranny fluid. Have you checked it?
