Transmission Problems?

I bought my 2000 F150 4x4 V8 mostly for towing a camper. It's got the HD Towing package.

My problem is that a year ago when shifting from park to reverse there was a really loud clunking noise. They couldn't find what was wrong (couldn't get it to duplicate).

Then I noticed that it took two or three attempts at changing gears for it to change correctly. (Shifting from fwd to reverse, park to fwd, etc.)

Now the column shift is so easy to move (not engage gears mind you) that you can move it from one side to the other with your little finger just lifting it up.

When accelerating off a complete stop, there is hesitation bigtime.
Worse part is that it doesn't do it all the time so it's a "do you feel lucky" kind of thing pulling across intersections. (I should point out that this problem doesn't usually occur when towing - guess the weight helps offset the problem).

Took it into ford, they can't find anything wrong. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you broke the column. Very common on these trucks when you try to shift out of park without the brake depressed.
