97 Over drive

I don't know if I am in the correct group but here goes. I have a 97 F250 H/D with the 460 ci motor and an automatic trans. The truck has a button on the shift lever that you can press to stop it from going into over drive. Since I do mostly very local driving I was wondering if there was a way to reverse the operation of the the button so that the truck only went into over drive after the button was depressed. Right now the truck is constantly going into overdrive and then I stop and over and over. It would just be better if it did not go into OD unless I was on the highway which is ver seldom.

No you're stuck with the system that is on there. That is a momentary switch that send a signal to the pcm. It is the pcm that holds out overdrive or allows it because you have a computer controlled transmission.

Butt' on

I thought I had the same issue. After about a month of pushing the button as I move the tranny into gear, it is automatic now...

I never miss a beat. I don't even realize it anymore. That orange light at he end of the lever is always on.
