02 w/ 4 speed, hard to get into first

I just bought a 02 4.2 w/4speed/OD. Truch has 20,000 on it. Sometimes it is very hard to shift to first or even second without pushing the gear very hard. Other that that the truck runs great. Is the transmission just tight?

The clutch may not be releasing enough or the pilot bearing could be bad. Thats all I can think of I don't know anything about that transmission.
