Don't use a converter that has ever had water in it. The fins and sprag rust terribly. Plus the water will dissolve the glue that bonds the friction lining to the lockup piston. Meaning the clutch will fail.
All e40d/4r100 converters fit the same the only difference in the converter due to different engines are stall speed and some have 6 mounting lugs(powerstroke and 5.4)

I know for SURE that this converter has had water in it. Could that be my problem?

I doubt it. Water doesn't change the fit it just ruins the internals

AH!

This is getting absoloutely RIDICULOUS...I can't Believe this! I can't get the original converter for my NEW Tranny (Which IS an E4OD.) SO i got another one, from THE SAME YEAR AND TYPE E4OD...And it fit in great! Got the tranny in the truck, The bolt came through, converter spun awesome, And It was all going great. Until i looked closely. The STUDS FROM THE CONVERTER ARE TOO LONG! THEY ACTUALLY HIT THE FLEX PLATE! AGHHH! Why can't i find a damn converter to fit this truck? I'm debating just buying a whole new tranny! help!

torque converter

ahhh to heck with it. i had this same problem with the exact same converter, same trans and i had an exact replica of a torque converter i needed (NEW!!!) and i dropped it on to the floor (5 foot drop). my truck was a piece of junk any way, and i debated if the converter was any good so i didnt use it(i didnt want to do a bunch of work if the converter wasnt good) so i just found another drive shaft, and attached it to the existing one, then welded the new piece DIRECTLY to the crank shaft. i pulled the truck with a tractor, and IT STARTED! i drove around the cow pasture, until it ran out of gas, and it has set in front of the planter ever since. boy was it fun

You got a diesel converter from a early 4 stud diesel.
I can get you a converter if you really need one and can't find one locally. Email me Dirtyd0gus@yahoo.com

Well, Alan, this is the plan. I'm going to try and cut off the bolts with a zipdisc, and Then throw the tranny in. Do you think that will work? I really hope so, because i'm at the end of the road here! That should be alright, eh?

Yes it will work. I hope that converter has been rebuilt and isn't a stock one. The stock 4 stud diesels were the wost for failure.

Okay, The tranny is out (As of the 29th) Now JUST how short do i cut those converter studs? They are 7/8 of an inch long now, Which is WAY too long! What is the STOCK E4OD Tranny stud length? NON Diesel? I'm close guys, Need this last bit! Thanks!

Run a 3/8-24 die on the studs, backwards. Cut the smooth unthreaded portion off. I am not sure on length but when I have had to do this I just cut the unthreaded part off. Use the die so that you can clean the threads as you remove it.
It's not as hard as it looks.

Getting frustrated

Alright...Got the tranny out AGAIN (As of the 3rd) And Cut them bolts down. They came out great, Everyhting was awesome, BUT i noticed that the converter had a weird noise to it prior to putting it in. If i shook it, it had a sloppy sound, almost like an orange slopping around inside a bowl. I hoped for the best, and put the bastard in anyways. SO...After two hours of getting 'er back in, and everyhting done...I Go to start it up, and theres this HORRIBLE noise, almost like the starter was stuck, and almost like a rod knock too! It was so bad, that it actually killed the motor! The motor couldnt turn whatever was binding up, So i shut it off REAL fast. I got under the truck, and tried to turn the converter, and it was NOT happening. Before i started the truck, i checked the converter, and it was MINT! Spun perfectly, no problems at all. NOW, it sounds terrible! I Think maybe i have a bad converter, is that possible? I'm so fed up with this damn thing, i'm ready to sell it as it sits. What do you think is going on here, Alan?

If it is not turning it sounds like pump damage caused by the incorrect converter.
The noise you heard in the converter is the fins. They probably came loose inside the converter. I see that often in the 4 stud diesel converters.
If you weren't so far away I'd tell you to bring it here.
When you take it back out make sure the pump is okay.
