Anyone else have a tranny rattle?

hey everyone i have a 4.6l with a 5 speed and it has a rattle that is really starting to bug me. it is pretty bad in first and second then goes away a little in third a fouth but it comes back in fifth but it isnt a constant rattle in fifth it has kind of a rythm. it sounds like it is right under the shifter levers and when i pull the transfer case lever a little to the left it goes away a little. hope you understand and thanks for any help or info you may have.

Do you have a 97 or 98 F-150? Your profile does not say. Ford had a fix for this and it involved a new shift lever. I noticed that on my 2000 that there seems to be some rubber on the lever where it bolts to the linkage. I would try greasing the bolt on the lever and applying some silicone to the lever and letting it dry. A thin layer maybe 1/16 inch just to insulate the vibration. When it is dry back out the bolt, greased so silicone would not stick, and reinstall lever to the linkage. BTW the bolt should be 10mm.

i had a rattle and it was caused by the shifter **** itself. the little disc with the picture on it was alittle loose. not loose where you could move it but when you put hand on it and pushed down it would stop rattling. i replaced the shifter **** with a newer style all black rubber one and no more rattle.
